Abstract
This study develops an analytical hysteresis formulation, based on the Mostaghel framework, for displacement-controlled cyclic response of multilinear multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) systems. The coupled ordinary differential-equation formulation represents stiffness degradation, strength deterioration, pinching, and friction-induced sliding and is demonstrated using Method B of ASTM E2126-07. The contribution is not the introduction of MDOF hysteresis itself; rather, it is the combination of a multilinear MDOF representation with displacement-controlled loading and the above degradation mechanisms within a unified Mostaghel-type framework. A three-story shear-type system is used to demonstrate the MDOF formulation, and three published experimental responses are used for calibrated reproduction of cyclic behavior. Based on hysteretic energy, the absolute differences between the analytical and experimental results are 0.03%, 2.12%, and 0.50% for the three benchmark cases, respectively, with a maximum error of 2.12%. The three-story example employs prescribed story-displacement histories and should therefore be interpreted as a kinematically controlled cyclic demonstration rather than an unconstrained earthquake response-history analysis. The results show that the formulation can reproduce a broad range of degrading cyclic characteristics while retaining physically interpretable parameters.
